The reel has been re-packed (minus about 6 metres) to be returned to my mate.
It's got me thinking about this gas issue though.
I've been nosing on the BOC website and wonder if Argoshield Universal might suit me better than the 5% lite?
I do very little really thin stuff, recently in fact just the two MX5's (rear end of sill) that my son and D in L have
as track cars, and that mate of mine that won't admit his lawn mower deck is past it's use by date.
I've done the odd heavy (relatively speaking) paying job recently. A digger bucket repair and some feet welded to
100 x 50 channels. Why do people cut though building support legs to dismantle them? Why not just cut through
the holding down bolts? Still, it's all work and the chap in question paid in full AND supplied be with a litre of Grouse
as a tip. He must be happy at four more garage bays to house his growing car collection.
The bulk of the remaining MIG welding that I do is 2 to 5mm thick.
I use TIG for all the fancy stuff.
I would be interested to hear views on "Universal" gas mix.
Alushield Universal will be fine for what you want to d0.
Cougar SG (not sure if it is still available) was 15%CO2 + 2%O2 in Argon, so in theory it should run slightly hotter than Universal due to the marginally higher CO2 content, but to honest I would be suprised if you would notice the difference
