Won't be anything like that. there is a pressure relief valve on the end plate which could conceivably cause a noise like that but it could also be vane rattle if you say you can feel it. Thats pretty terminal as far as I know as it means the rotor, the vanes or both are worn, which is pretty...
Reaming is a problem with Oilite, it can smear the surface and prevent adequate lubrication.
Precision grinding the spindles to fit is the only way but they still seem to wear quickly.
I'm beginning to think that bronze bushes and frequent greasing is the answer.
On the face of it Oilite appears to be perfect for non rotational, oscillating motions but all I can say is it's used in Vincent Girdraulic forks and the spindles wear like hell !!

See, it's a can of worms !! Much depends on the working environment, day in, day out garage or workshop use is a different world to hobby use.
Anyway, my Sykes Pickavant nut splitters are even better than a Snap-On one I also have :o The Snap-Ons jaw is soft and I've replaced it twice, FOC...
A decent Ingersoll Rand T30, 3hp single phase will be upto £400, and can often be found for £250 or less if very lucky. You would need to make sure a given example was ok though as major parts can be expensive. The most frequent problem is a bent crank from falling over when being moved by a...
As above. Either two 3hp units connected together or a tandem unit with both pumps on one receiver. The benefit with 2 independent units is you can turn one off for lower consumption tools.
Rule of thumb is older compressors are better than almost anything you can buy new, unless you spend...
I'm with you 100% on all of that. Much of society wants to buy a clear conscience now, everything seems to have a price tag. We need to have consideration and mutual respect for our family, neighbours and all that need our help, all the time, not just once a year. I listened to a discussion...
Just happened to notice a Butters AMT 1800 mig on ebay in almost as new nick, it literally had minutes to go and is local so I banged in a bid of upto £405 and won it for £395 !
It has 6 months warranty and was sold by dealer. So, how did I do ? Be kind please !
I never like to knock specific brands of tools for fear of upsetting someone but Teng, IMHO, are not that good, and thats being kind ! They are the only tools I've ever used that have broken in normal use, thats sockets, ring and open end wrenches and ratchets.
They weren't mine, they were the...
Receiver is of secondary importance, it's the net air delivery of the compressor pump that is important. Much depends on the power supply you have available. If single phase only then you are pretty much limited to 3-4 hp units, with 4hp needing a 32 amp spur.
If you have 3 phase, the sky's...
