Once you have used a gas setup you will not want to go back to gasless. I used a Clarke 135TE for Land Rover repairs to sills and floor pans and it coped very well. I notice the 150 amp machines give 6 voltage settings which is very useful. The 160EN will give you a choice to switch between gas...
The machine takes 0.7 and 5kg spools so you have a choice. The good brands feed well from the spool. Try the supplier at the top of this page. The price he sells looks cheaper than WWO. Order a few tips and shrouds at the same time. I found Weldequip provides a fast service. 0.6 wire is good for...
Thanks for that information. It seems the spring has been lost.
I have not had a serious problem using the welder. I put a steel washer under the cap to allow the cap and spool to slip under tension.
I am using the 0.7kg spools so inertia is not as high. I found I need to check now and again...
I looked at the manual and it refers to a spring on the spool retaining collar. Is this correct because mine is missing a spring. I set the spool tension by friction alone. Is this correct?
Any advise would be appreciated. I tried a search but nothing related came up.
Looking at your location, you may want to try CO2 from Waltham Abbey Beers ltd. Not quite as good as the Argon mix but will certainly get you there. That size is ideal for your project and a lot cheaper.

You will need a suitable regulator for CO2 and the adapter hose.
Lead burning is the term used for joining lead. The fuel used can be MAPP gas or propane as an alternative to acetylene. However you will need to use more oxygen. The expense is in the hire of oxygen bottles which are similar contract arrangements for mig welding gas.
You will also need a torch...
If you use the chisels occasionally they will be fine. However they may not keep their edges as long as a Marples chisel say. I always found a general purpose machine oil worked well on the india oil stone. 3 in 1 oil is much thinner hence the reason a lot soaks into the stone.
Leaving the edge...
My first use of this compressor (3 Hp, 14 cf displacement) was very disappointing. I tried the impact wrench on 10mm air hose and there is insufficient air to the tool. It will not even remove wheel nuts with 9 bar pressure. Should I replace the regulator as it seems the air delivery is very...
Considering the amount of repairs you intend to do, I suggest you convert to a large bottle gas supply of either Argon / CO2 mix or straight CO2. You will need the correct valves for the large bottles but it will be a whole lot cheaper.
Have a look at the shielding gas section for more...
Some of these parts are made by YRM metal solutions so you will not need to consider thickness for those ready made panels.
Also try a search on one of the Landrover forums as these questions are covered on those forums. The sills and cross member are often discussed.
For patches, it is best...
I think the cost of the wire would not be of adequate advantage. There was recent post on this.
For car body repairs, a Clarke 160 is more than adequate or one of the much praised Portamigs.
