Hi all,
The other day my wife knocked my tank over and fortunately the only thing that happened was it broke the gauges. I know the tank should have been secured properly and it had been but I pulled it out of where it was while I was cleaning the garage.
In any event, it’s time I built a...
I did a few practice welds at much faster speed and ended up with a narrower bead but with little penetration. I turned up the heat and things did improve but not enough. Do I need more juice??? I’m using a Lincoln 180.
I wonder if maybe my problem may be due to oxidation. I used a stainless...
Thanks guys,
I did a lousy job tacking it but it should be fine if I do nothing more to it. The load on the bar is mostly a shear load anyhow. I’ll grind the spots down so it will look better and maybe I’ll farm it out and have it TIG’ed. I certainly do not want to warp it.

Hi All,
I’m welding a 3mm box section to a 3 mm flat bar (stainless steel). The bead I’m getting using 0.8 mm wire is too big. My question is will 0.6mm wire give me a smaller bead?
I have tried to move faster, but I feel that I am moving too fast.
Right now its tack welded and is strong...
Joe…I just had the same problem with the wire stopping at the tip. I found out that the tool I used to trim the end of the wire mushed the wire before it made the cut leaving the end wider than the nozzle. Now I use a better wire cutter and that problem went away.
Hope this helps.
John, no offence taken. When I turned forty a couple of years ago, I noticed I had a harder time seeing up-close so I went to the optometrist and yes, I do need to ware reading glasses. I also noticed that I need more light than I did when I was younger.
What I suspect is happening is the arc...
Thanks guys…I’ll try some different shades too see what works best for me.
I also might try and get more light on the part and see if that helps. I have some high output LED’s that I use for biking at night that should fit the bill.
Hi guys. I’m mig welding with a shade 9 helmet. I’m having a tough time seeing the weld. I’m trying to look at the molten pool just behind the arc but I wonder if the arc is too bright and my eyes are being affected by it. Would a darker lens be better???
Thanks
Hi All,
I learned to weld when I was in High school and in the past 30 years I have done a fair share of both stick and mig, but its more like 30 one year experiences than 30 yrs of experience. Right now I am looking to buy a Lincoln SP180T so I won’t have to use my friend’s welders anymore and...
