Mine was Highland Industrial Supplies, welding manager there is Jim Fraser and he really knows his stuff. Totally worth getting local expertise and someone you can just go into the building and talk to.
Thanks - from what I've (subsequently) seen on youtube, it appears most folks finishing a panel just run a series of very close tacks rather than running a bead. Maybe that's what I should have done?
Also, I did see a video with a guy using an oversized piece and using a thin slitting disc at...
(incidentally, the wing bolts to some seriously heavy-duty supports, so every possibility that'll straighten it up...but I'd like to get better at controlling this)
Just occurred to me in the shower - could have used the frame as a support while welding. Doh!
Ok, so this is a learning experience (as obvious by quality of the welds), but it's no big deal if I have to just get new panels.
I had a bit of grief marking and grinding the patch panel out, but got something I thought was acceptable eventually, but tacking it at the corners and working...
Well I just got lucky... Local guy selling a weltek navitek S4 brand new, still got the seals on, and a 9100fx (helmet only, no PAPR but it fits the weltek one) for £280 the pair.
Quite delighted... Just to try them out next! (Once I've let them sit about to flush all the covids out, of course :p)
Thanks Brad, great advice. Will look into them. Little disconcerting only a single online retailer lists the XR950A, and they're not even on the Parweld site...
Has anyone tried these? Welding and grinding PAPR sounds pretty useful and am quite tempted - my JSP filter of course is only of much use for grinding, and the motor is on the way out. Am looking for something that's decent for general metalwork prep (eg sanding paint off a car wing), and...
If it's anything like my XTM 201i, the amps are showing once you pull the trigger on the work and the arc forms. When you stop, it preserves the amperage display for a few seconds before reverting back to wire speed. So when you let go the trigger, turn your head around quick ;)
Hi James
Just bought the same welder 3 days ago, and like you, very disappointed in the manual. Just had a rant at Parweld on Instagram about it in fact, as their manuals just don't look right to me at all. Main complaint would be this:
Material thickness determines weld parameters. 1. Convert...
