Thanks mdr, I’ll have another go after work, and report. Would hate to get rid of something that could be fixed cheaply, but if it’s hours of chasing around, I suppose I’ll have to bite the bullet and get a new one :(
It’s a bit of a temperamental supply - just to add some more variables :ashamed: That’s why I wasn’t surprised at the fuse going, but I do agree that 160 doesn’t sound too mad. Wondering why the overload lamp is on from the start, maybe it doubles up as some other warning?
Hi folks, I’ve got some daft questions... I recently acquired an old Startig 160 AC/DC TIG machine. Having never owned a TIG machine before, I need some advice please. It’s fitted with a 32A plug (which I’m not able to plug in) so I bought a tail to adapt it to my 13A socket. Yes, I’m stupid, I...
Hi everyone, I’m a newbie to the forum, and to welding in general (apart from a few rubbish attempts over the years). I’m looking for recommendations on kit to buy (second-hand) for O/A cutting and brazing shenanigans. Seen quite a few bits for sale, and just need to know what to look out for...

Oh, forgot to mention the mods/bodges. I’ve changed the liner to an Asda special one, and stuck a knurled bolt onto the reel-holder, complete with a flat washer and a chopped valve spring from a 500 Honda... I’m all about the mend and make-do
:ashamed:Wow, that’s taken a while for me to reply!
Thanks for the welcomes, everybody. Since my first post, I’ve started a welding course at night-school, and am really enjoying it - the earlier warning was correct!
Here’s a pic of my little welder, it’s nothing like the luxurious...
:waving:Hi everybody
Joined the forum just now, because it really is time I learned to do it properly!
Was given an old SIP Handymig a while ago, bits missing and don’t think it had been used in years. Replaced the tip/shroud, got a new reg and a small gas bottle (for now). Think I should...
