Thanks for the comments. The steel cost £320, all in, including laser cutting, from laserprofiles.co.uk in Wimborne, Dorset (who were excellent - helpful and prompt).
So no, not cheap. Then again a replacement new mild steel deck with indifferent power coating is £400-£450, so I have saved a...
Issues I had?
Bending 3mm steel by hand was hard work.
The 4mm top plate still warped despite me taking what I thought was enough care to clamp and tack first. I think once I got started with the seam welding the sides on I got a bit carried away. The warping is not too bad, just meant...
Ok I finally got round to this project. I got the top plate, the bottom lip, and all the attachment brackets laser-cut out of 4mm stainless (yep that's right - way thicker than I needed really) from a dxf I had done. I also got some 3mm plate cut into the right width to form the skirt...
Thanks for all the replies so far. Lots to think about. To answer a few points:
- It's true, this one is not too bad, still serviceable at the moment. But I've been down this road with my old mower... patch it up in one place and the rust pops up somewhere else the year after.
- I have...
Hi all,
I'm fed up of mild steel cutting decks rotting in a few years, so I'm thinking of fabricating one in stainless steel for my Countax ride-on.
Any reasons why that might be a bad idea? I'm thinking the rotting grass stuck underneath might tarnish the ss/ a bit but who cares? So long...
Capacitors - no obvious signs of damage/corrosion:
How it was welding yesterday morning (ok, I am not the world's greatest welder )...
And how it wasn't welding once it went wrong - just a quick splutter, then nothing:
Ok still no joy this morning. Took a look inside, it's a bit dusty but I cannot see anything obviously blown or corroded etc.
Not sure how I would check the capacitors - not keen to spend money on new ones if the problem is something else.
Will post a few photos...
Ok thanks for the replies everyone... I will have another try this morning and if it's no better I now have a few lines of enquiry to pursue.
Much appreciated!
Hi there, hoping someone can advise on this issue I am having.
I have a Migatronic 180MX which I bought secondhand a few years ago and I use about 2 or 3 times a year. never had any problems with it, very easy to use. I am a very occasional amateur as you can guess.
Today I was welding up a...
