Thanks for the input, I've got an argon/co2 mix which I'm going to use. I think I'll just get some stainless wire of the same thickness and give it a go.
I want to try welding stainless steel, I have a gys 160 easy mig currently setup for steel with co2/argon gas. Can I just change the wire to stainless and start experimenting or do I need to change my torch liner?
I've bought a new panel for my vans door, the panel has edges pressed up at 90 degrees up from the outer face. The original panel on the van has the edges rolled over and welded to the door interior structure. What is the technique to roll the edges over to fit the panel? Hope that makes sense?
Yes I saw that episode of the long way round, it was probably the welding that did for the abs, think they managed to get it going again. Got to love the resourceful attitude you need on one of those journeys

A question about van welding, I've been disconnecting both batteries, starter and leisure, I also earth as close to the work area as possible. I haven't had a problem with frying the ecu or alternator but I've heard of people disconnecting these as well. Also heard about earthing the van but not...
Just completed some panel work on my van, I did ends then middles moving around each side of new panel in turn. It seemed to work well, left the job for a bit for everything to cool down and went back to complete the welds.
I've got a gys easymig 140a, still learning with mine but I've been wedding van panels about 1mm steel on lower settings. The machine is good, easy to set up and use having the euro torch is also a plus
