It's says 32 amp in the manual. I rang R-Tech when I first bought it to ask if I'd get away with a 16 amp feed and they said no chance. So my best guess is that it draws somewhere between the two. I'm going to see how much upping the feed to 30 amp is going to cost and give it a go. The worst...
Thank you everyone for your help. It sounds to me like the easiest option is going to be more capacity or a different plasma.
Any thoughts on whether I'd get away with 30 amp?
Oh trust me, I'm not complaining . I have loads of 3 phase equipment. In fact it was one of many reasons I bought the place. I just miss my plasma and it's the only thing I can't run.
I guess I could get away with a 30 amp supply as I doubt the little machine ever actually draws 32amp.
I have a French friend who helps me out when it all gets a bit beyond my skills :).
I'm waiting to hear back from the water company at the moment about putting a supply in. That's going to be a laugh. We only have a well at the moment and the water isn't good.
I'm fairly sure it's 3x20amp. I'll.check again in the morning. I'm told that upgrading the supply is fairly straightforward if the infrastructure is up to it. But I'd have to go to 3x40amp and I think the standing charges start to escalate quite significantly then.
So there's no simple way of...
Hi everyone. I haven't been on here for ages. To cut a long story short I've moved to France with my wife and two little ones.
The place we have is an old farm, so I get a lovely big workshop, complete with 3 phase 'trickery. However, for some reason the French never seem to have very high amp...
So it's still doing it on occasion. It seems to happen most when the lathe has been running for a while, but when there is no load.
I've uploaded a video here:
I hope the link works ok.
Any ideas?
Yes, I spoke to him as soon as it happened. He said that it's not happened to him before and didn't really know what to suggest. I said I'd look into it and see if we could resolve the problem. He's ace so I know he won't think I've broken it, but he's been very generous to lend it to me instead...
I've got a Harrison M250 lathe, which has been loaned to me by my father in law. It's in great condition and has never really given any problems before.
A couple of times in the last week it has started to make a grinding noise, that sound like gears not meshing properly. It's barely...
I need it really, so that's fine with me.
If you could go with Hermes I would appreciate it, but I don't want to cause you any extra work.
Let me know what's good for you and what it costs and I'll send the money over.
Thanks
Jon
Edit, just had a quick look and 70mm round is 30kg/m. so 150mm...
That would be great Glyn, Thank you so much.
Do you want to PM me your Paypal address and how much you would like and I'll send the money over asap.
If it's possible could I have 150mm please? Just in case I make any mistakes!
Thanks
Jon
I don't even need it to be EN8, just and old mild steel really. I need to turn it on a lathe, but it doesn't need to be accurate or nicely finished or anything.
The internet is a funny place isn't it? It's a nightmare working out what is good advice and what isn't. I'm a pretty seasoned veteran of forums etc and I still get confused by all of the conflicting opinions.
I will err on the side of caution if I build one and coat it with sealer as well...
I finally got around to getting a new 400uf start cap. It's an ebay chiwanese special, but to be honest it looks well enough made from the outside.
Plugged it in, fired it up and it sprung straight into life, straight up to full speed. I can hear the centrifugal switch clicking in and out. :D...
