Yes, I was think adding a switch, but as it is brand new, & under warranty, perhaps not yet. One thought was to swap the speed control potentiometer for one with the same resistance value, but also having a switch (which could be wired in to the motor circuit). then turning it all the way down...
Just got myself a new welder as above, so much better than my previous "bitsa" one.
Question is, should the wire feed stop altogether when I turn the control down to 0.
Mine does not. I find this irritating as my previous welder did, & I used to turn it zero at the start of a new job, & press...
Just going through this myself - small transformer open circuit primary. Jus to correct above, the two 12V windings on the RS transformer would need to be connected in series to get 24V.
Bob.
It works !
Well, finaly wired up a 3 phase outlet, connected welder to 2 of them, and switched on.
Nothing tripped, welder just hummed (very quietly). tried a number of welds at different current settings, & all worked as it should. It may be old, but it's still got life in it ! Changing the...
Giant Welder continued
Well, connected it up to 230V this morning, expecting something to fuse, or trip ! No, it just sat there humming quietly. Tried a weld with unit set to 100A, just about managed to strike, & maintain an arc, but was obviosly not 100A. set unit to maximum (253A) & tried...
Quasi monster
I Measured the leakage with a "Megger" high voltage tester got same result on 250, 500, & 1000V. I recon with 500K leakage, even at say 500V in that would only draw 1mA, so should not trip the RCD. Anyway will try at 230V first, then measure the O/P volts, perhaps even try a weld...
Help! Can any body help me identify (& find specifications for) this old oil filled welder. It has a nameplate, but no information stamped on it !
It has three O/P ranges, and about 10 or so main settings the highest being 253Amps. There are two input terminals, but no clue as to whether it is...
