if the saw has been stood for a while with fuel in it, it is quite possible that the rubber diaphragm is stuck down, I always find that when I start my garden machines in the spring a gentle heat from a warm air blower does the trick, do all the usual checks change plug and re-fill with fresh fuel.

As an old time plumber I like mooching on car boots, second hand shops etc for old time tools, purely for nostalgia, I still have the Max Sievert petrol blow lamp that I bought as a 16 year old apprentice and that was 53 years ago and it still works, when I get a minute I will put up a piccy of it.
