I've just replaced the head gasket on my Defender 200tdi, as i haven't had the vehicle from new i replaced the strech head bolts ,according to the various data available ,you can use the head bolts up to 5 times before they need replacing ,the chances are the head hasn't been off 5 times from...
its all to do with ambient lighting,i often use a 500w spotlight when i'm mig welding,it makes the world of difference,mine came from Machine mart £ 12.00 ish
by the time youv'e had it re-bored,bought new pistons/rings,head skimmed etc,ok you will have a virtually new motor,but it will cost a small fortune and you'll find out why people fit 200tdi's in, there's still plenty of 2 1/4 petrol engines about,is it the 3 or 5 bearing crank ? ,if it's 3...
i had a problem with "bolt on bits " to,I ordered four front spot lights complete with bulbs from them ,the lights came but no bulbs ,I phoned them,e-mailed them and wrote to them ,I never did get the bulbs or a refund !!

Thats why I was so impressed with the cavity wax from wayside adhesives........you can use it straight away , no heating up to thin it down, just give it a shake ,attach the gun and spray away ,and its cheaper than the others.

I think you'll find that a mig wont be able to weld 20mm thick steel,my choice would be a mma (arc) welder ,even then 20mm is very thick,just wait and see what other peoples thoughts are.
I assume you hammered a 6 point socket on ?,don't worry your not the first,i've never done that but I've seen a few sad looking caliper bolts in the past.
for a quick temporary repair use blu tac ,once it get wet with petrol it goes rock hard,and lasts for ages,i read in a land rover mag,some guy hit a rock whilst traveling in africa and his tank started leaking,stuck some blu tac on it and the landy made it all the way back to the U.K
