Some more progress, blasted the parts then etch primed (i know, should have used epoxy members are saying - will do in future) then satin black synthetic enamel. A mini roller leaves a nice finish. 1st coat below, 2nd to go.
Next is pressing in new bushings, ball joints etc. Lots of new parts landing need to get them organised but this is the nicer stage than rust and broken bolts!
The local place that did zinc + yellow zinc plating has now stopped yellow zinc. They also are taking 3 weeks and counting to plate my calipers.
So ive ordered my own zinc / yellow zinc plating kit. Hopefully £200 well spent!
Oops I had to re upload the video some files dropped out.
I also 2K EPOXY primed the battery tray repair area this evening - @Turbo@Dcal would be proud. Phew that was a massive amount of work. Glad to have the first major weld repair nearly complete
Onto another typical Merc hotspot for rust - front bumper brackets below headlamps. This side was gone at the front. Thankfully the other side was still in tact so I made cardboard templates and took measurements to exactly copy it (although the middle of the other side is also gone)
Repairs above I made from galv sheet metal.
Below are a rare treat - brackets I could buy!! How nice to be able to just weld those on and not have to make them
