Most riders I know only ride off road. Too many idiots in cars for me to venture out on two wheels.
That's one type of riding that I've never done/been into funny enough, I've always just ridden on the roads.

I'm not 100% sure but is a DT80 the same bike with a bigger engine?
Found this on Ebay,

I have welded up a lug before and just hand filed it - was a massive improvement, does not need to be too accurate provided there is little gap when it is down.Made a bit of progress with this.
Tank de-rusted by filling with citric acid and leaving for a couple of days. I was a bit dubious at first, what appeared in the filler when I first filled it up looked like hot chocolate
Looks nice and shiny now, what I can see of it with the borescope camera at least. Followed up with a splash of isopropanol (to soak up the last of the water) and then paraffin to coat the metal and hopefully stop it flash-rusting.
Needs some scratches in the paint touching up, then a set of decals and lacquer over the top.
Side panels arrived, need priming and painting.
New shock arrived (thanks @AndersK for the tip) and fits OK.
Think I've found the source of the oil leak...

I'd banked on new seals all round anyway, just hoping I wasn't going to have to split the cases.
The side stand is a bit floppy, about 2" of play at the end. The bike nearly topples over when it's on the stand, hence the paving slab in the seller's photo...
The wear is about 50:50 the stand and the frame lug, so just buying another stand isn't going to work.

Options:
- Try to shim it (gap is about 1.5mm total and isn't anywhere near parallel).
- Build up the frame lug with weld on both sides, and try to grind it flat. Not sure about this one, I can't see how I would get it flat and parallel with a hand-held grinder.
- Buy a new stand, and fabricate and weld in a new frame lug. It's made of 8mm plate, I don't think my MIG or my welding skills are up to doing this safely.
- Leave it as-is, and extend the length of the stand to take up the slop.
Not really keen on any of the above. Any better ideas?

I got away without modifying the stand slot, though that stand is a much lighter design than anything I have worked on - looks like you cold possibly give it a careful squeeze in a vice to reduce the clearance?OK, I'll give it a try. Would you bother trying to get the slot in the stand parallel as well, or just leave it as-is?

You could drill the frame and fit a flanged oilite bearing in there
Hi I know a seller on eBay that can possibly help he ships from Hungary as dt parts are not very hard to get over there it seems like but he's 150% legit give him a shout. https://ebay.co.uk/usr/benitoa_11Bought this for my 16yo daughter, I thought a trailie would be better for dealing with the shocking state of the roads round here, plus it allows her to get some practice going round the fields before she tries doing her CBT.

(pic is from the original advert, will put up some of my own pics when I get a minute).
It's 32 years old so does needs a bit of work doing, cables, battery, oil seals, de-rust and re-paint the tank and the side panels, all the usual stuff you'd expect on a bike this age. Engine and gearbox seem sound.
No trouble finding most of the parts I need, all except the rear monoshock. Orignial Yamaha ones seem to be unobtainium, the old one is an aftermarket part made by 'Oxon' who I can't find any trace of. The biggest aftermarket supplier seems to be YSS, but they only offer one for the later DT50LC and the dimensions are all different.

I approached a few companies that offer a rebuild service but no dice, most of them seem to focus on the more 'performance' end of the market.
Any ideas?

I also have a dt50mx had it since I was 16 loved it so much I can't let it go
I recall those days, I had a rebuilt Tiger Cub ready for when I was 17, mates had mainly got mopeds and I had money saved from part time work, then got the chance of a 1959 Triumph 5TA for £200 and bought that so I had a 500 for as soon as I passed my test, something too sensible/boring with my approach. I rebuilt the 5TA and when first got out on it I was stopped at a set of traffic lights by a Porsche owner who wanted my number plate VSR911, offered me £1000 there and then in 1982/3, and pay the transfer fee. I bit his hand off and bought an R100RS BMW with the cash from that and selling the cub.Aged 16 - my moped was the best thing that ever happened to me. Started work and got my independence.
Gangs of us on SS50's AP50's FS1E with a few Fantics and Garelli (nobody wanted a restricted moped).
Don't see lads having mopeds now - see an odd scooter.
Never ever see two or three riding about together.
In 1983 - we would go out with about twenty of us mucking about on - falling off mopeds.
