I am honestly a bit shocked that Zurich have done this, it’s not following the standard! What’s the point in having standards if they aren’t going to be followed even by a company like Zurich. Does your company hold a procedure for this? Who do you get audited by and do you have any kind of welding co-ordination there?
I’m sure they charged a fortune for this as well?!
We get audited by the BSi . I make the call on what gets welded and how it gets welded we dont do structural , this is a plant repair workshop not a fabrication shop , not a steel erectors . We fix buckets , munchers , rock crushers , shears , excavators etc . Anything under load is independently sent for load testing and inspection report for LoLer compliance . We put a new lifting eye on a quick hitch , it's tested , we weld a boss back on a digger ,we build a fops cage it's tested and all numbered, stamped and recorded .
And there is no code for welding a dirty great rusty torn apart pull er back with the chains and smash wire in till it's stuck 50ton excavators bucket haha
Most of what we do isn't welding , it's spanners time in here , changing jaw sets , bucket teeth , setting shims , fitting rollers , new tracks etc etc .A steel structural welder or fabricator wouldn't have a clue about 90% of the work we do , he could make us some parts I suppose , he wouldn't understand what it was for though haha
Oh and money is no object ...costs and things do not matter . It's all about ticking boxes . There is no real need for us to be coded ...they just like us to be so .
I see no code quality cleanliness in this buckets future
