In theory I think it could be used as a gas generator. I'm not actually "using" anything as such because this idea exists only in my head at the moment. And it is destined to stay there if I can't get a nitrous oxide cylinder.
I wrote to the UK Rocketry Association today for guidance. They told me that the sale and ownership of nitrous is unregulated, but to check with HSE for the specifics.
So I'll do that. Don't have high hopes though.
If your a member of the public doing your thing at home then we don't get involved in any regulation.
Many folk have cylinders at home, propane, butane, co2, o2, argon, all sorts. Some folk even have acetylene
Nave a NoS cylinder at home is no more dangerous than any of the above
Just the usual common sense rules apply. Following HSE advice wont be a bad thing but not enforceable in the home environment
