mate has got himself an auto jag...2.1 v6 x-type.
he thinks the torque converter is slipping, but i know little to nothing about the actual mechanics of a torque converter apart from its full of liquid that gets thrown about through various vanes...
so basically he is complaining that when driving at normal every day speed and accelerating to anywhere up to 50mph the revs fly up to about 2500-3000 and the speed builds slowly, he said its like a manual clutch slipping...revs climb quick, speed follows slowly...
he did say however that if he plants his foot down it seems to function properly and doesnt seem to slip...
also, gear changes are smooth reagrdless of driving style, no juddering, no weird noises etc...
i said id ask here as ive no idea about autos really and it doesnt seem to correlate to what the disco does really...although i am aware that the engine RPM will always be a bit higher due to the fact its basically powering a pump...
any ideas on what to suggest to him?
