Prefer handbrake myself.I use DivX converter to convert file formats, it's pretty quick.
Ripped thousands of DVDs with it over the years.

Windows Movie Player will read .MOV files produced by my camera. I have a useful program called Any Video Converter to convert between formats.
If you want to read .MOV files with Movie Maker then you need to install a plug-in.
Well, I've had a play this afternoon and can't get the files to play in Windows Media player, Apple Quicktime or VLC media player. Tried both on the laptop with Win10 and desktop with Win7 Pro.
I give up.........
What make is the dash cam
A neighbour has had a Nextbase for about a year and when i was in his car i noticed the memory card was not in the slot properly so i fixed it, He said it had been like that for a year...Also, have you put the memory card in.
Note: Some cards need formatting out of the cam. Others are formatted by the actual cam.
Also, not all cams/devices will operate with the same class (speed) of card. Some work best with class 10. I had a cam that required class 6 .
I use GOM player to play video files. I don't think I've found a file it can't play. You can also adjust the brightness and contrast whist it's playing, watch frame by frame, zoom in on specific areas of the screen. It's very versatile.

Could you upload a short file so some else could try
@slim_boy_fat
Are you sure that the dash cam has actually recorded some footage and/or the lens cap has not been accidently left on.
Also, have you tried both ways of openang the files-ie double left click and also tried one right click see what
options there are?
