"Stuff Accumulation Beyond Life Expectancy"
I'm hoping () for an at least part sensible answer to this...
If i have a project that needs a specific fixing, say a 16mm countersunk allen head machine screw, i always end up having to buy a huge amount compared to what i need. (50 in this example, when i actually used 6!)
For the £3.50 they cost me, it wasnt worth tbe 30 minutes extra travelling time to visit somewhere i could buy just enough.
This happens *a lot* - other examples are 3" ring shank dipped fencing nails. i bought a 25kg box for half the price of a 500g(?) box - still got about 24kgs left!
I reckon i must have 8 or 10 banana box sized (600x450x300mm ish) plastic crates, if not more, of bolts, nails, screws, knockdown fasteners, euro hinges, shelf pins, angle plates, bearings,
plus at least 4 boxes or more of full extension drawer slides (each too heavy to lift!)
thats not including at least one box of used scrap from stripped down cars, rotovators, computers and dog knows what dating back to at least the early 70s.
So. sensible answers please - at least as far as this site can manage
what do i do?
keep it all, and redesign projects to use the stuff i have - the problem being i have so much stuff i dont know what ive got.
design projects to specifically use it? (im thinking some kind of clear cast resin sculpture/table top filled with nuts, bolts, screws)
sell it all as a job lot - money is easier to store than bolts?
keep it all, keep buying and accumulating and let the kids sort it out in about 30 or 40 years.
keep it all, but organise it so i can see what ive got.
go back to market trading, but in hardware this time, and dip into my stock when i need something?
again - this is a genuine query, so sensible answers please.
