evening gents, just got my first ever bsa, never had a British bike before!

Just wondering if anyone has a old set of af spanners they don't use any more and would be willing to part with them.

The old tool stalls at car boot sales are good source, if nobody makes you an offer. I built up my much older BSF spanner collection from car boot sales. They don't tend to go for much due to lack of demand.

Not only BSF/Whitworth and AF, chance of BA as well. I have even found metric used by lazy restorers who didn't have the right size to hand. Even worse when it comes to threads. Bantams use BSF, Whitworth, UNF, BS Cycle and BA. Greeves 246 ( Greeves being the only place I have found 1BA )

I had a couple of A65 BSA bikes bought both of them with big end bearings shot, may be a common problem. I bought some spanners with BSA stamped on them for 50p each at Scorton autojumble, they seem quite common.

I have a 1958 A10 650 meself. Its all been repainted, i just have to buy the stainless fasteners to bolt it all back together.

The reputation for knocking out big ends probably comes from people not changing the oil often enough, causing the main bearing bush to wear, causing low oil pressure at the big ends.

My friend has a 1930s bsa. I cant remember the exact details, but its somthing like the threads being metric, but the heads being imperial? Somthing about the french, IIRC - but i really dont know why!

I have these that came in an old box of bits and I was going to chuck 'em away, but couldn't!!
There are a some known makes like Gordon, Matador and some not so good! Mixture of a/f and Whitworth and a couple of metric. Jaws ok but bit of a state, will clean up alright.
You can have them for the cost of postage, if any good. Can give more details if you want.
