Too much choice

Does anyone know why there are so many models from each supplier.
Clarks have what appears to be dozens of differing models.
I know when you look they are for different applications and techniques; but there are still too many.
I am always tempted to buy something that will be "the best" and end up getting the higher priced items that is not giving me any physical advantage.

So should I go for a good make and go for thr smallest unit. I am sure I will only use it on 1.5mm sheet and not go on to build a portal frame building as my skill improves?

Hi Paul, and welcome to the forum

I suppose the right advice is to buy the best your budget will allow. We have all been in the situation where we buy something with a specific task in mind, then find it won't do the next job which is that bit bigger.

Some of the differences in the Clarke kit are convenience things, like having a full sized chassis to carry a large bottle. Downside of that is that it is less portable than a machine with disposables. Then there are the 'professional' and 'hobby' versions.
People looking to do car restos need good low-amp performance whereas others need the highest power possible form a domestic supply. It really is horses for courses.

If you post what you want to do and how much you want to spend, someone will advise on a good choice of machine.

most manufacturers offer different models, as you say its for different applications. Its a bit like car engines. 950cc wont go fast but will get you where you want, a 5lt v8 will get you there with power.

if your only ever going to use it on 1.5mm a 120amp unit would be fine, if you want to get up to 6mm thick on occasions you should look at a 180amp unit.

I went for the middle ground and got a 4L V8 Actually not THAT quick in this day and age but so what, that's what bikes are for ... and anyway, if you buy a 4-wheeled posing pouch, nobody can check you out if you're passing at warp speed.
