Morning guys..
I have never had arc eye..but yesterday I was busy tack welding some parts together and don't recal any flash or anything...but later in the evening I started to develop eye pain..like I have a bit of something in my eye...I have pulled eye lid back and there is nothing there...it comes and goes and very annoying and painful at times...so I not sure if it is arc eye.

If you ever receive a good "flash" it feels as if you have eyes full of sand, It was described to me by the medics as the surface of the eye had sun burn and the pain came from the surface peeling in a minute way.

Arc eye is a strange beast depending on the level as to which you get it.
I've had it a couple of times and it can be an uncomfortable irritatation in its lower exposure form or the most horrible painful eye ball experience if you get a good dose of it.
Sensitivity to light (even candle light) is the classic symptom to determine if you have it.
Pain when blinking and lots of streaming. If you get it bad you won't see much white in your eye as they become heavily blood shot and swollen. Usually a 24hour period after exposure clears it up and 9/10 it's a sleepless one.

If you can get to a hospital with a severe case they use anaesthetic drops, Wonderful relief but it doesn't last very long (ask me how I know)

May be I might have a bit of grit or dust in it..painfully at times and streams...blur vision in that eye....will see how it goes...

Of the couple of occasions I've got debris in my eye I've been able to spot it by shining a bright light (phone torch!) to the side of my eye while looking in the mirror. However, given how small the fragment is, it's usually very hard to spot - especially if your eyes are already streaming! I certainly wouldn't suggest trying to fish it out if you do find something(!!) but at least you might help you determine the cause of the pain along with the sensitivity check that Richard suggested. Even if a mild case of irritation I'd suggest getting to an eye clinic or hospital as they can give you drops to aid the healing process and prevent infection.

Yesterday Richard...had a lot of grinding and cutting to do. But always have goggles on and masks ect.

It's almost certainly not arc eye
You need to get to the quacks mate and let them have a proper look at it.
If that was arc eye the symptoms would start to feel better today. Last night would of been a sleepless night and sensitively to light would of been bought up in your opening post.
Take no chances with your peepers buddy you might have something in there and it needs to come out before your eye starts to form a layer over the top of it. When this happens it's head in a clamp and removed with a needle.
Ask me how I know this

I've never been so close to hitting a dr as when they came towards my eye with what looked from my angle like a bloody knitting needle. And agreed, I'd say you've more likely scratched your eye with a piece of grit or something. Get yourself down to a&e for some anaesthetic drops.

Not sure if I've told it before on here but last spot I worked at, bully boy site manager doesn't show in, boss turns up to tell me he'd been woken up by the manager (his brother) ringing him at 3am in tears as he thought he was going blind. Severe flash in both eyes. When he came back a few days later he tried to rollock me for not telling him, a late 40's grown man, that he shouldn't sidle up next to me while I'm welding and just stare at the arc

I think your right Richard..never had arc eye but the symptoms are different...although it is easing off..but will get it looked at regardless.

If you had a load of yellow gunge sticking eye lids together when you woke it will be grit/metal in eye, I use goggles all the time ,still had problems .

Yes do that mate. Chances are if it's easing off you've either removed the item or the eye has already started the process of healing around it. Sooner it's looked at the better. I'm not too bad with eyes and don't mind the drs having a prod at them but I do remember the time I got a shard of ball peen hammer imbedded in one once and that was a needle job. Was not a pleasant experience in the slightest and was very close to permanent damage. Look after them mate as it's one of few body parts they can't replace.

If he doesn't know the adverse effects of staring at an ultraviolet arc hundreds of times more potent than the sun, then he is in the wrong industry.

Have had arc eye a few times now and the first thing i have known about it, is waking in the middle of the night with excruciating pain.
Feels like you have had your eyes sand blasted with hot sand.
First time i deserved it my fault, spent all day tacking parts up and just shutting eyes.
Second time spend most of the day welding inside a stainless tunnel on a paint line, had mask on but it must of been reflective light entering the mask, back of my neck was sun burnt as well.

All feels OK now...I normally put my goggles away when I have finished...but I left them on the bench...I think grind dust or a fragment landed inside them...and in my eye when I went to use em ....
