Sky routers suck and you can't use your own as they don't supply the password. It's possible to work around but it's lots of work.

Vodafone is the same too. Most other UK suppliers don't force you to use their hardware.

If you are happy with that, then the service is fine.

That's the one thing i dislike about virgin superhub..... The wireless range is crap.

the new virgin hub was great it was on 2 channels too I could get wifi in the workshop and out on the street

I have been with Sky for about 8 years and never had a issue with the service, aside from having to re-boot the router once in a blue moon its performed faultlessly. BUT, year on year the price has slowly crept up for my bundle which includes TV as well and its gotten to the point now where it takes the pi$$. I received an offer in the post today from BT, which are offering 50mb BB unlimited Infinity for £29.99 on a 12 month deal. Going to see what sky will do to reduce my current bill or else i'll be giving BT a try.

If you're out of contract with sky just ring up and haggle with them. Today I have done this and managed to get unlimited fibre, line rental, variety TV package +cinema for £58.99 pm

Zen for me. Business grade connection, fixed IP, I can put whatever kit in I like for the router and firewall. No port blocking, only had issues caused by openreach mistakes (disconnecting the wrong pair at the cab), was fixed the following morning.

Scrap that, I've called back today after I received a 60% off offer.
Now it's down to 48.99 per month. That's down from 90.99 and now I'll be getting fibre.
It pays to cancel if you are out of your minimum contract terms and let them Work hard for your custom.

I could probably switch to any provider and not notice any difference in service - the sole drawback being that if a tree took out our line I'd have to try explaining that to someone who has no clue what I'm talking about and will insist I need to reset my router - plusnet people are closer to English (they're northern, so fairly close) so it'd be easier to get my point across should I need to.

Been with PlusNet for years now, only ever had a couple of problems and both times they were easy to talk to, helpful, quick at fixing the problem and each time credited my account with a month free to make up for inconvenience.
