Windows 10 drag and drop disable.

I am trying to edit my vast photo files which requires 80% of files in one directory to be selected, before cutting and pasting elsewhere. I have given up in frustration because the slightest bit if jitter from the wireless mouse, results in it making copies of everything selected.

Without editing the registry, is there a simple method of disabling this action?

No need to use drag n drop
Just select first photo you want then press and hold the shift key and it will select all photos between first and last
Then press CTRL C
Select the folder you want them copied to and then press CTRL V
Voila done
no messy dragging anywhere

You can deselect individual photos in the ones you've selected by holding the SHIFT KEY and clicking on the photo

Try adjusting the "properties" for the mouse to make it "less" sensitive.

I think the OP wants to cut & paste?, so it's CTRL X to cut.

where are you dragging from and to ? if its to another drive it will copy not move

I think the problem is that the wireless mouse is "doing it's own thing"! with a slight knock, hence the suggestion to de-sensitise it Get a similar problem wit the mouse pad on works laptop due to many functions built into pad.

where are you dragging from and to ? if its to another drive it will copy not move

Try using "list view" and highlight a vertical block at a time?.

I would get rid of the mouse (and the keyboard if its wireless) I had nothing but trouble with mine, jittery mouse curser, missed characters from the keyboard when typing, lag when playing games, Autocad was almost unusable with them, £20 will buy a fairly decent usb keyboard and mouse, its transformed my machine.

Drag & drop defaults to move on the same logical drive, copy on different logical drives. If you want to force a move hold the shift key (shift = move), of you want to force a copy use the ctrl key (c = copy) or if you want to generate a shortcut use the alt key. (Gives the file an ALT-er ego i suppose).

Maybe it's the method I use then?, right click and hold the source file, hover over new location, let go of right key and it gives me the options of move or copy, if I select move it moves the source file

yeah because you're choosing move and not simply dragging and dropping

he does but he was dragging and dropping but also having issues with the mouse not being accurate
