Car Dash Cam

A bit of a repeated thread is this, I know the discussion has taken place before but times move on and perhaps more members now have them...so.

I have an ebay cheapie and thought it was sort of ok, going down a main A road recently I met an elderly lady blinded by the low sun driving up my side of the road, a very fast manoeuvre meant she missed by the thickness of a cig paper.

Today an old van pulled out in front of me and then banged the brakes on, I managed to bang mine on just as fast and all was well even though I suspect it was an attempt to cause an accident, especially as when I got out to chat about nice things they tore off into the distance.

Reviewing these events on my pc has highlighted the fact my camera is rubbish....big time rubbish in fact.

A top of the range Nextbase 512G is around £160, an ebay rubbish one is around £15, can anyone suggest something in between those two that provides a quality picture, no need for any other frills such as wi fi, mapping or whatever.

i have a nextbase 412gw. the picture quality is great. my wife has a cheap one, when she had an accident we soon found out it didn't catch the incident as its very jumpy on play back and misses large chunks of footage out

Does that model have GPS?

Roadhawk are a very good camera, they do HD versions and they have GPS plus various sensors for acceleration, breaking etc. I think you need to use their software to view your rout though. You can just view the video though, mine is an older one so I can't say exactly about newer versions, but I am still happy with the one I got quite a few years ago.
I must admit I haven't tried the one we got for my partners car yet (she seems to have forgotten!) it's a Rexing V1 which claims to be HD 1080p and is considerably cheaper than the roadhawk.

My lad has a Rexing V1P [front and rear facing] I've not seen any footage from his but the clips I have look good

Bikers could use Helmet cams and maybe get a car mount for em?? Go Pro or similar. Have to get something else to cover your rear though. But I see more and more bikers with em.

aint that the truth, its been that way for some time, remember the "Volvos". but mobile phones, satnavs, honking great windscreen pillars contribute (another Norlander theory).
In some cases they have seen you, but cut you up coz they know you'll hit the emergency anchors- but misjudge the speed n distance.
At least the lads helmet cam proved he wasn't hooning or goofing off. So good investment I reckon.

I find wing mirrors offer little resistance to been clobbered downwards in such instances.

Restricted vision in some cars is appalling, you can lose sight of a whole bike, in the back qtrs, the same on the A pillars if you are not careful in our lasses Mito

The cameras connect via a micro USB. So it may be possible to rig something up. Number plate light camera maybe.
