Newbie from the far north

Hi guys and girls

I'm from the highlands of Scotland and looking to buy a welder. I do know how to weld as I did a marine engineering cadetship and two moth of our workshop practice was spent doing welding: gas, mig, tig, mma and gas cutting. I am now looking to develop these skills and start putting them to good use as I have a series 3 Landy which seems to have never ending rust issues, I may also eventually try and do some of my welders coding certificates. Sorry but some stupid questions may follow.

Five processes in 2mnths? I should just hold back on coding tests a good while yet.

Plenty of tips and tricks on the series 3 welding work but most tend to just sit them on a new Galv chassis now

Don't worry the coding test thing is a very long term plan once I have managed to get some real practice in. Yeah there is that option but to keep it on the road at the moment is the priority a full strip down and re chassis always ends up spiralling out of control cost wise as you find all the other things that need doing so that is a long way off.

Is this the same two months they also taught bending pipe with sand, and getting from a to b with duct tape, plastercine and string!

Not quite that was an extra 2months called pikey tips and tricks or plant. You also forget how to make gaskets without cutters or punches and how to make them out of chart paper.

Welcome, bit further North than me but if we are talking pallet deliveries then even I get classed as Highlands and Islands

I'm further north then you and i am in northern scotland

However thankfully my work 20 miles north of me is classed as southern scotland

Don't try and understand it you will just make your head hurt

Be interesting trying to make gaskets out of a gps and electronic chart.......paper charts must be a novelty item these days.

The deckies ejected all the paper charts down to the engine room when the new rules came in so we have plenty, it will be a while before we worry about having to get more.
