Cordless impact driver advice

Thermal cutout.... The Makita batteries supposedly have that/current limiting too, but that didn't stop someone from making my SDS smoke last week when he stalled it and managed to drain a fully charged 4AH battery in less than a minute. Drill still works fine, (or appears to), but I'm guessing its lifespan hasn't been helped any.

Speaking to another local company, they buy in kits and split them up.
I.e they buy the Dewalt cordless framing nailer and 2nd fix nailer with 2 batteries and the charger.
They sell as individual items ,in clear plastic bags ( as bare units), and then are left with the batteries and the charger.
I'm guessing , when they get a big pile of them, they sell off cheap(ish)

That £125 for the 9ah is very cheap compared to what I've seen them go for.
Heck of a battery too, got 2 in with my SDS max

That makes some sense, though it still seems a very big difference it's perhaps possible.

Same reason McGills of Dundee could quote 1/2 the cost of materials that I could...bigger sales, bigger discounts. A lot of the smaller hardware stores can't buy stuff in for the prices toolstation etc sell it for...Powertoolmate seems legit from what I've bought in the past.

Hmm. That's fine in theory but Milwaukee don't seem to be good in that way. Same person I know had a lot stolen recently and the insurance only pay out what it cost him to buy, not the replacement cost - which sucks because there's just been a price rise and talks with Mil to sell stuff at the old price to restock haven't been met with much in the way of 'lets look after a good customer'. I'd not expect much available in the way of discounts to the big people.

If it helps, I had an oil Makita cordless smoking many years ago (tip, don't use them as starter motors for engines) and it's still going strong to this day!

Good to hear. I was half tempted to club him with the drill when I saw it smoking, but after I'd stopped being somewhat miffed, just decided to sod it and keep using it if/until it dies, and see how it fares. Fingers crossed it'll carry on like yours. Worst part was that it was only on its second outing from new, when it happened. I've never seen a masonry drill so well and truly jammed as that one was though. God knows what it had found in the block, but that bit was well and truly locked in there.

is this a similar oil cordless ? never seen a makita one but they do smoke a little when they have a bit too much oil

The Milwaukee Fuel 1/2 is beast, every review I've seen it has done well although if you already have the batteries the Dewalt comes close. I think you do have to be careful as there are different versions of the Milwaukee and not all have the near 1500Nm o

I have customer who uses a Milwaukee, got it when they first came out, tool rep came to his garage to demo it and he wouldn't let leave with it, rep said it was the only one he had "tough it's mine now" was the reply. When I had a look at it he said he was doing some suspension work and forgot he had it on high setting and it stripped an inch of thread from a big bolt

As a test I Used mine today on truck wheel nuts it would not undo them as was, because they had been over tightened previously and been on 2yrs that i know, had my 24mm socket 3/4 drive ratchet with 4ft tube so about 5ft of leverage and 18stone on it and had to bounce to get them to crack they did 'just' crack thats it, but the nut would still support my weight, I then stopped they had moved a minute amount, then took the milwakee with 1/2 to 3/4 adapter n deep socket and it wizzed them off from that state of tightness which was still too tight imo, it was no trouble to it , and also with no release fluid.

On one job we were pushing sds drills hard and they were getting hot, opinions varied from :-

1, Let it cool down before using it again.
2, Run it off load for a few minutes so the fan draws air in cooling the winding's.
3, Just carry on it will either work or stop.

Methods varied and opinions got just a heated as the drills.

Milwaukee batteries get everywhere, they use them on the extrication kit carried by the fire truck at work...

I have got a a snap on one and it's very good. Thinking of selling it and getting a dewalt one as just swapped all my drills and angle grinder to 18v dewalt.

Not sure if it would be a good move or not. Only use it for hobby use.

Check facom and mac tools they have same batteries but slight differences in tools

Get the Dewalt one. it will eat the Snap On one for breakfast!
