I need to buy photo shop as I have some templates created in the program.

I don't want to shell out for cloud software as it does not need to be all singing all dancing.

What was the last stand alone version they sold , as the creative Suites are going to be too expensive for what I need it for.

I use Corel Paintshop Pro. It's only £50 or so and I'm pretty sure you can work all the file types that you can with Photoshop (which I've had in the past). I've found it comparable to Photoshop ...I'd check that it's ok with the files you want to work first though.

I really can't see 15 year old software being much use for anything, but I suppose he can try for free

The last downloadable versions of cs5 I think can be used just by not connecting to the internet, or blocking adobe.com in the firewall, not sure on the legalities of it tho

Granted it's not photoshop but it's free and does quite a lot that photoshop can do....

I use GIMP 2, its free and feature rich. Dont bother with photoshop, people just use it because its better known.
Just a heads up, if you do download and install it, it takes ages to load the first time.

I've been using PaintShop Pro for years, probably only use about 5% of it's capabilities but it does what I want, recently had an upgrade and bought PaintShop Pro X9 on offer from Amazon

FWIW CS6 was the last version which I am still using, and will do so untill I need to open newer .2CR files than CS6 can read.

Also you find me something as good or better than Lightroom, I currently have 120k photos from 1mb jpgs to 650mb high res tiff scans and I will pay for that instead, one off or subscription

Yes I barely use photoshop but when I do it's the only thing that cuts it. I couldn't cope without Lightroom, alltho my import structure means I could easily migrate to something else if I had to or wanted to

Just needed to know the last version before the cloud versions as they are often sold on after new ones come out on ebay but with so many updates and versions it's hard to know what to look for.

Yeah gimp, inkscape I have had loads over the years and me and graphics never get on well. Lol

I am using a you tube video to help someone out with a mug printing template....so need to be specific for them.....they are quite slow due to am impairment.

Yes, Lightroom is used to organise and categorise pictures, with some basic editing features, gimp is more like photoshop

people will copy / download the last pysical copies and use them

But they have updated and added lots of new features in the new versions, one I use is a semi auto control that sorts perspective on buildings if you can't use or don't have a tilt and shift lens

Stops them looking like they are falling over, it works well
