How old is this?

In the corner of my mates cave and still in regular use. Flat belt with open gearbox on the top, has auto feed, 4 morse and very old. But how old?

It might be old but looks like the back gear is engaged and it's on the slowest belt so I reckon it's still got what it takes to pull your arm off

Those old drills are class. I bought a big bradson similar to that one last year hope to get round to cleaning it up soon.

I was just looking at the picture on roofmans post, it was possibly flatbelt driven from overhead shafts rather than an electric motor. The leccy motor on my mates drill must be an afterthought.

Don't know but just love it. There is just something special about old well made machinery.

Mmmmm nice bait that,what is it worm or bread?. Ive used the type and as stated in an earlier post in back gear they can do some damage to drill bits

It looks like it's got a back gear and an auto-feed system; fancy kit and ideal for boring giant holes in enormous lumps of metal very slowly.

When I look back at old machinery design it looks as though it was manufactured to do its job what ever was threw at it and more .
Really over engineered which was a good thing then, and lots of them survive today. When I served my time it was nothing to say Oh aye a 40ton turbine shaft put in that lathe over there .

About the age? well it's about as old as the fuse board next to it

My dad had one similar. Electric drive motor bolted to a frame on scrap filled tank shell ammo boxes, v-belt up to the back flat pulkeys, canvas belt up and round. Occasional busted belt hence a box of joining pieces on the shelf. Used a lot in his sel-employed business. With the lack of knowledge of youth, I scrapped it in my late teens after he had a stroke. Regretted it from my mid twenties!

Aye. It's similar to the one I have here, in bits, ready for when I get round to fettling it. Mine doesn't have that bracing strut and such at the rear though, but there's a gearbox on the other side of the head.
