safe to use?

before i even try use this for the first time, does it look ok to use? its been sitting in the shed for abit...

Looks fine to me. Nothing very much to go that wrong with these. Just make sure when you turn it on the the torch isn't permenately live with can indicate a fault.

yes put the cover on and how does the wire look if a bit rusty unwind a few meters of it untill you get to clean wire or you will get a lot of c**p in the liner

i have seen ruster my old mig come from a scrapy was a lot worse then that but i did clean it up before using and new wire

Put it in a warm dry place indoors for a few days in case moisture has got into the windings of the transformer. (If you have a multi-meter you could check for leakage to ground from all terminals on the transformer.

Had to get one of these up and running at work. Changed the liner and wire and fitted new tip and shroud, welded like crap. Fitted new earth clamp, good as gold.

is there anything in the average home that can be used for a leak check?

Well my average home has several multi-meters and a proper Megger or two but maybe others don't consider it average

edit: i read a mild water and washing up liquid mix was ok to use?

i know years ago they used washing up liquid and water round joints if it bubbled its leaking

but before doing some someone hear will confirm if it good to do (im not sure i would like to use water round a welder )

the wire on the welder is rusty, will try feed it out through the tourch and cut off, hopefully find some good wire

need to get familier with the settings etc etc etc

If you feed the rusty wire through the torch you'll damage the liner.

You should have flung the rusty wire really and bought new, as said in reality you now need to fit a new liner, look up on the seach at top of page, loads of threads on it, only cost a few pounds,do youself a favour though bin the old stuff unless you can unwind by hand and get down to really sparkly clean.usefull tool when sorted.

I got the new liner from eBay for about £4.00. Easy enough to fit in under 30 minutes. You get more than you need but don't cut it until you're absolutely sure you've got the length right.

is the wire feeding smooth or you not got enought power and need a lot more on the wire feed speed

then view all the vids on here there great to give info


give your self a bit of help and do a bit of maintance be trying to weld i know from experance i did it my self when i got my old unit an hour spent getting new /removing wire(cut the wire and remove from the roll not feed it through the liner or you will have carp in the liner ) if you got a local pound shop net curtain wire works for a hobbie upgrade and if you muck it up putting it in you can buy another for a pound

download the instructions they normaly have a guide of power/speed settings for the welder and will get you in the ball park then will just need small ajustments to get a nice line

get your self some flat metal 3/4 mm would be the best to start

what are the signs of a fecked liner?

jumping wire feed stutering you should get a smooth run no jumping or over run you should get a frying bacon sound (there are poeple that say this is not right but you get the idea)

gas seemed to be coming out better now


it was poping alot before when trying to weld


edit: although the ones below are better, its a hit or a miss... will try replace the liner etc and see how it works from there
