Snapped upper wish bone bolt

Okay, I thought you meant since that, yes, that one is down to you, did you actually use a torque wrench initially (and is it well calibrated?), as overtorquing a thread or doing it FT and keeping nipping it up is a very common bolt failure, most of the time too tight is worse than too loose...

I did torque it up properly first time but maybe i should have loosened them initially before i lowered the truck off of the jack

Hi, Gents please, whilst this is all very interesting to read. We are talking here about a standard vehicle with a standard replacement part that has failed, is it a case of a error in fitting or is the part not fit for purpose?

I didnt start this, it was said that there is NO force acting on the nut when there clearly is, if you read my posts I have said several times that same fact, and my thoughts on the subject of competition car verses standard
the example I gave was to illustrate that in braking, it exerts turning forces through the bushes that WILL move nylocs if not fullytightened, reading this post it was obvious to me, that it was sheared by the tightener, because he stated that fact in his first post, and not the force of the suspension, the nut was further slackened by the turning force created because it was not tightened in the first place, in the correct position when supplied, we have established that fact !!!!

so when i fit this new one loosen the nuts off alot drop truck to floor then tighten them to 130nm

Pleased that is sorted
Dont forger a plain nut has the same resistance to coming loose as a nylock
Difference is the nylock wont unscrew
Put a dab of tipex on the nuts then you can keep an eye on them
That being said i think you will have no more problems
There are loads of them chugging about

Yes but they were loosened by the action of the bush, they didn't carry on unscrewing and fall off the end of the bolt did they?

actually the first time it loosened then i tightened it up would have had a similar effect to me loosening it off then droping the weight onto the wheels! anyway why dont they come with destrustions like you said

Yes, but if did you overtorque it when you did it back up because it had come loose?

Once you've stretched the bolt it's downhill from there.

they did come with destructions ------- well in fact ---------they ended up with destructions ------- after you got it

HeHe They expect you to know us lot---------- to set you straight-----------after taking you blindfold down the backstreets either side of the houses and up a few back alleys in the dark !
