Bucko, it takes a lot of nuts to openly admit to struggling with something a lot of us take for granted, respect.

I am fortunate in that I found school, spelling etc. a piece of p, but I just hated actually being at school (it's not till you leave you realise how much fun it was)

However, with my writing, I should be a doctor. It looks like a drunken spider has run through an inkpad then across the page. I can't remember the last letter or report I did by hand. I have handed everything in on computer since we had a manky green screen PC.

I can write something, and at times I can only read it because I can remember what I wrote. God knows how teachers ever deciphered it.

And my hearing is going, at the age of 27 Mainly due to spending a lot of time in very loud clubs, and caning the volume on my walkman, and as a young idiot I never once used ear defenders)

If someone just starts speaking to me it takes me a few seconds to realise, they really need to get my attention first so I can 'tune in' to them.

And it's only going to get worse.

do you have hearing aids? if not maybe check them out. i know how bad it can be with out my aids. however if your hearing is this bad without aids you are in good shape.

also i WILL be completely deaf some time in the future (sooner or later who knows). i am on the very last hearing aids i can use, after these i have no clue what will be next.(how will i listen to music? )

so cheer up at least you have some hearing for now, and i have the same "tune into people thing too" any one taking outside of 3-5 feet i don't bother with trying to listen to them (unless there looking at me.)

I'm OK without hearing aids, but the doc reckons in the next few years I might need them if my hearing degrades any further. So I now always wear ear defenders when using power tools, even if it is just a quick grind of something.

I don't go to clubs as much as I used to now (sort of grew out of them) but went the other weekend, and when I got out in the morning the silence after the club was deafening, mild tinitus for a few hours as well

As jugs has said, don't let it get you down, my daughter has verbal dyspraxia which means she struggles to pronounce letter sounds, didn't talk at all till last summer, now rabbits on non stop, she doesn't write yet so could have dyslexia as well as she gets older.
anyway that wasn't what I was going to say, got sidetracked, I have employed a number of young lads in the business over the years and out of all of them, the two most capable, practical lads both had dyslexia, I couldn't ask them to read instructions or fill in a job card, but they were brilliant at doing the work and if I could have afforded to keep them on during the slack times I would have.

Thanks bucko - that spell checker is working like magic. I'm inspired now - I've just downloaded the Firefox spell checker for myself. Very neat - just underlines words it's not sure about with thin dotted red lines that can be right clicked to change. Thought I'd post to try it out.

Right Click!!! I always wondered what I was supposed to do when I got a dotted red line. Thanks Malc (and Bucko for starting it and Wozz for the links..which I didn't need but didn't realise till I'd already downloaded it! ..does annoy me tho' that it wants me to spell in American rather than English..can I change the dictionary? How? pretty please).
