Series 3 of Forged In Fire on the History Channel, Thursdays at 9pm. Just watched episode 1, four previous champions competing against each other. I really enjoy this programme, much better than that Big Daft Swords series. All the previous series are on catch up too.

I like it apart from the martial arts guy, he gets on my tits, and doesn't really bring much to the table. Most of them need to learn to leave their knives in the quench for longer, if the oil if the steel is still hot enough to still ignite the oil it's not properly hardened.

Aye, he always seems to side slap the blades and then says "oooh look, it bent". Unless he gets it right and goes through straight, then says " It will Keeel"

The guy that won made a cracking sword, and didn't blow his own trumpet or play to the cameras just got his head down and did the job.

I enjoy watching the programme.. some awesome craftsmen. It makes you wonder how they made stuff hundreds of years ago with very limited tooling...

They didn't particularly have limited tooling, once they had a hammer and anvil they could pretty much make the same tools we have today. Check what Douglas Pryor does with pretty much the same tools and techniques they used back then. Modern machines make things quicker but generally the finishing is still done the same.

Make one yourself, there's loads of video's on youtube on stock removal knives the easiest sort to make first. I learnt blacksmithing so I could make a damascus knife I still haven't got round to it.
