Hi,
Im new to this forum. Im 16 from Huddersfield.
Iv got a Corolla GTI that i purchased when i was 14. However its been parked in my garage/drive for all that time lol.
I purchased the car back in Feburary 2006, I had new arches welded in and sent it off for a cheap respray (All done on the cheap due to funds). So after the car was back from the bodyshop i let one of my cousins drive the car and he crashed it .
All my money had gone down the drain. So i kinda bodged the car back together at the age of 15, using one of them pumps to straighten out the inner wings and slam panel. Then i fitted a new steering rack and wishbone (Both wish were bent).
I left the car in my garage until a few months ago when i wanted to get it back on the road. I couldnt be bothered faffing about aligning the bent front end the car has, so i cut the front end of another car with the help of some tutorials on the net i removed the slam panel, head light mask etc at the spotwelds, straightened the existing inner wing (Too much hassel removing it) and the aligned everything back up. You cant tell its been crashed now . However this still requires plug welding in place.
Whilst i was at it i thought id strip the interior out as i was going to respray the car myself (Iv done a few panels and a car in the past to a great standard). This is when i spotted all this.............
Removed the rear seats (Drivers side of the car)
Close up
Other side
Drivers side shock tower thing
Close up
Other side of this shock tower (drivers side)
Passenger side
Close up
Scary
Now i cant really afford to pay someone to sort this out becuase of my little income, however i can get hold of a mig welder (Electric and maybe a gas one) and i cant cut the rust out myself and make the repair sections out of shet metal (Iv got abit of expirence doing this). It will be my first time welding but iv got some mates that could gimme a little hand (They aint that good either tho lol).
Now how should i go about welding this, if you look at the holes at the bottom of the seats, the rust is on the edge, and the rust on the shock tower is on like a curve, Will i have to cut various pieces of metal and tack them in place? What thickness of metal will i need for the different places?
Any advice appricated.
Thanks
