Metal Shear recomendation

Evening all, im after a bench/floor mounted shears so I can cut sheet relatively quietly at home in the garage.

im thinking about the Clarke cps200 but before ordering it I would like any ideas from you all as to what would be best.

I will be cutting mostly 2mm mild steel but will buy an over spec tool.

I have one similar to the Clarke cps200 that is surplus to requirements. Happy to sell it on but I'm based in Kent if you don't mind the trip

I think that one might be a little bit too big for me

If it was me i would be keeping my eye out for a used ye olde made in Britain Edwards, Keetona, etc, even if it is a bit manky they are fixed up quite easily. Will be chomping through metal long after the Clarke one has been melted back down for more bean tins.

cheers, would prefer a proper tool rather than a new flimsy one. Am watching a keetona on the bay.

I bought a made in India 12" bench shear from J&L Industrial Supply (now MSC) about 20 years ago when it was on special offer and it's been fine. No chips in the blade and has stayed nice and sharp. It will go through 5mm plate if you can find someone heavy enough to hang onto the lever!!!

You could do worse than look out for a Gabro, great bit of kit, often come up as used a lot in schools & colleges.
I remember the college chucking one out when they closed our department, few years later they wanted a new one, i offered to sell it back to the head of department & he declined, bought a machine mart one instead. It broke irepareably the first time we used it. Made me smile!
