Personally if I was going to that much trouble I wouldn't consider anything other than a brand new galvanized chassis. You can see numerous patches under the underseal so it'll probably rot somewhere else in a couple of years use. After owning numerous Land Rovers, and changing 3 chassis, I'm a cynic about whether it's ever worth repairing them for a full restoration.

Not if he's put the two screw 'blocks' opposite each other, as it looks like he has.

Bugger, that means i've still got two years to go with mine!!!! But maybe, with the time it's taking I was wondering if I would live long enough to finish it, so getting it done that soon would be good news.

They might be newer zinc weights so they have to use a load more.

Yes, the newer weights can be a problem like that but those cover almost a 1/4 of the rim, balancer wouldn't have planned that way it will just be that it maybe said 120g but that creates a spread and when you test again it asks for more. What is interesting is the weights are in almost identical places on both front and rear wheel. When I get a Land Rover rim like that I mark/rotate the tyre but I'm not doing it for a living and it does get tedious when you moved it 2-3 times but it's very satisfying when you then only end up 2-3 weights but it doesn't always pan out like that.

if that was me id bin the tyres they are old type cross plys probery remoulds by the look of tread pattern
change them to radials gives a much better ride
