Do you know anyone with a DC clamp meter that you could borrow for a couple of hours? You would get an idea of current direction and size when the engine is off, during cranking and when the engine is running / charging the battery. Obviously don't try this while you are driving.

just nice to have an understanding of whats going on , wasnt sure if it was a fixed rate of up to xx amps or if they got whats left of the 100amps until charged

Not to mention after a few hours back in use then back to being shiny just like they were, total waste of time

You can have as many Amps alt was you want but with amp it's only uses what is drawn so a batt may start chaging at 50a then drop off to 10-5a when changed and again you turn you headlights on you it will draw say another 30a then you heated read screen another 10a so on
I'm not very good at explain things but think that sounds about right
