Yeah the ad read that he had priced it at the price he wanted and to contact him if you agreed to buy at that... a strange way of doing it, probably to avoid the commission on a buy it now listing.Looks like he sold it outwith the 'Bay - ad was pulled as 'no longer available'.

maybe you mentioned it before knighty but if you dont mind me asking, what kind of coin did that mill set you back?
she looks to be in right shape.
pity they peppered the table so much but soo many are like that.
as for taper, as the lads say, its probably a R8 taper on it but as also said it could be a 30 as quick.
stick your finger into the spindle underneath and feel it, if there is a slight taper for a bit and then it goes straight its an R8.
mill cost me £821

only really know ebay prices to compare it to, but seamed like a good price to me

If it is a QC30 then it will have a rotating collar to tighten the tooling and no drawbar. If it is a standard type of 30 taper (Int30 etc) then it will have a drawbar but also dogs on the spindle nose. If it is R8 then it will have a drawbar but no dogs and may or may not have a small setscrew up on the straight section inside the spindle. The setscrew in the R8 spindle often gets sheared or sometimes removed so it may not be present.
erm... I'll take some photos tomorrow and post here for advice... don;t want to go buying a load of the wrong tooling
always wanted a mill, but have never used one before... had a bronze gear made at an engineering place a few weeks back, when I went to pick it up they fitted it to a shaft for me... new keyway they had was a little tall so he popped it into a bridgeport and skimmed a little bit off... I knew then I needed one :-o

it id clean up nice.
i have a similar one here, came with a slotting head and was born in 72, there was a resonable amount of tooling with it too and it was a well looked after mill, one owner job, it set me back near 3k so 800 odd isnt dear for that.
have a look at the serial number on it and search google for the date codes and you will know how old it is.
the number is under the swarf cover just behind the y axis handle on the front.
screw the table to the column, push the first plate on top of the knee back a bit and you should see the serial number.
its on the side panel of my one incorporated into the serial number on the plate but id say yours is on the knee.
