Ive a Moore and wright set square and protractor lol. The set square probably 15 years old still going strong just replaced the ruler in it.
I bought a set of "kennedy" snap gauges very happy with themOr these - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251919383649?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT
I'm looking for a set for myself, just trying to persuade myself I need to spend £90. Mind you, I did spend £68 recently on a secondhand set of 11 small bore gauges by M&W.

yea live dangerously and push the boat outI am not convinced by those M+W ones they look the spitting image of the cheap ones that I have seen branded as silverline or cheaper for about £9 delivered on ebay. maybe they are the same maybe they are copies of the M+W who knows. the Cromwell ones could be the same. hahaha what a game!
from what I can tell the decent ones seem to have a round ball where the two sections of the 'T' intersect.
Im a big believer in buy cheap buy twice and cheap stuff tend to be a chore to use.
there seems to be a few secondhand sets on ebay from time to time but they tend to have rust on them and I bet if they are rusty on the outside then the mechanism inside will also be suffering.
maybe I should just bite the bullet on the £9 set.

i went into Cromwell to buy these and their instore catalogue lists the micrometers as costing £72 excluding vat. I showed them the online price and they wouldn't match it or offer a click and collect service, so I left empty handed.
could i guess that the feel of the locking knurl thread just wasnt nice, and pressure wasnt as smooth would be your gripe with them.I had a set of cheap snap gauges no comparison at all to the Cromwell ones
I use mine all the time , the more you use them the better you get
The cheap ones were not at all user friendly
