Ive a Moore and wright set square and protractor lol. The set square probably 15 years old still going strong just replaced the ruler in it.

Some of the kennedy stuff is very good, i'd buy kennedy before moore and wright anytime. The old M&W stuff was good, now i think its the usual chinese stuff rebadged.

I bought a set of them 30 years ago . paid 18 quid for them . went to use them a few weeks ago and they wernt big enough
managed with dial caliper. then last week a bloke was selling some larger telescopic ones so I got em for 8 quid 
what a scoop .they will probably sit there for ages before I use emI am not convinced by those M+W ones they look the spitting image of the cheap ones that I have seen branded as silverline or cheaper for about £9 delivered on ebay. maybe they are the same maybe they are copies of the M+W who knows. the Cromwell ones could be the same. hahaha what a game!
from what I can tell the decent ones seem to have a round ball where the two sections of the 'T' intersect.
Im a big believer in buy cheap buy twice and cheap stuff tend to be a chore to use.
there seems to be a few secondhand sets on ebay from time to time but they tend to have rust on them and I bet if they are rusty on the outside then the mechanism inside will also be suffering.
maybe I should just bite the bullet on the £9 set.

The cromwell ones i seen looked good. They had them on display in the local TED, which is the irish branch of cromwell. They looked a lot like mitutoyu, same shaped frame and similar paint. The best way is to go and have a look at them yourself. But any of the new M&W i have seen didn't impress, it looked like chinese junk with a once great name on.

i have are euro's set here which look identical to the gaz's ones there and were about the same money.
i have few starret and old M&W too, no doubt the branded ones feel a bit smoother but they both do the same job, at the end of the day
they are just a rule.
i went into Cromwell to buy these and their instore catalogue lists the micrometers as costing £72 excluding vat. I showed them the online price and they wouldn't match it or offer a click and collect service, so I left empty handed.

Thats pure stupidity on someones behalf. Maybe the discount came up when the sale was on the computer screen ? If i was you i'd ring their head office or as to speak to a manager. If you had travelled a good bit to buy them it would have been a real waste of time and effort.

I had a set of cheap snap gauges no comparison at all to the Cromwell ones
I use mine all the time , the more you use them the better you get

depending on what your measuring i would look at your options as to how else could you measure said items a different way.
e.g bearing shells ive allways used plasiguage to work out what size i need (plus shows up barreling issues a mic wont show you)
other things can be done with a basic micrometer set which i would get calibrated by an independant firm (some thing not a lot of people do) just so you know theyre accurate when you get them.
older stuff is generally better made but definitely get it properly calibrated and checked and you should have no issues.
if your not going to be using it often then maybe its worth getting friendly with an engineering firm to check the work your doing then all your work can be certificated ok.

could i guess that the feel of the locking knurl thread just wasnt nice, and pressure wasnt as smooth would be your gripe with them.
did you find the cheap ones measured badly.
the kenedy ones brightspark linked to do look like a sweet set, not mental money and look to be good quality and well made.
when i get to the point im using them enough ill splash out on the kenedys but for now ill do with the ones i have.
i find them grand for the times id use them.
