I recall reading that some of you have these [or similar] and that for 'serious' cleaning add some ammonia to the cleaning solution along with the washing up liquid.

Mine is only the 3-litre tank model, how much ammonia would you use in the solution?

Yeah works miracles on carbs. I never heard of using ammonia, I use IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol, not India Pale Ale )....
I hope yours lasts longer than my first one did (about two uses). I couldn't be bothered returning it and bought a jewellery type one which has lasted a couple of years with infrequent use. It doesn't look as robust as the stainless ones like you have though.
To check it's working well, stick a bit of tinfoil in it and you should see it getting perforated after a minute or two.

I fill mine with water + a splash of G101 to clean glassware.
For grubby metal bits I put them in a foodbag of organic solvent (Paraffin, IPA, DCM, toluene, whatever I have to hand) and drop the bag in the water. That way I don't have to clean crud out of the tank and I use less solvent. I think it was Shox Dr's idea

Tried it for the first time yesterday with a small horseshoe and an EPNS teaspoon which was pretty tarnished. Used the poly-bagtrick and it def contained the crud.

Today I put the carb through and it came out looking much better. I only set it aside to drain as I was pushed for time [Mexican GP ], but tomorrow I'll blow through with the compressor to ensure there's no dampness left and refit it to the mower and see if it's made the improvement I hoped for.

Well technically it's an acquisition... I found this Picard 2lb cross pein hammer with a claw-hammer handle wedged into place with a nail. I also had half a pick handle in the back of the shed. I cut off the old handle, treated the metal to a light sand and brush (the cross required grinding to get some imperfections out) then carved the pick handle down to size with a rasp. See what you think - this is the first time I've ever made my own handle.

Original paint was black, but so little was left and I like colour coordinating with my vice so hammerite blue it went!

It does indeed, octagonal handles are friendlier to hands than circular ones too. Very heavy, very powerful

i have exactly the same one as a bench test supply.

Today I acquired an AC TIG - It's a little bigger than my old welder

5" grinder for scale. The delivery people took it off the pallet because the wheels were overhanging, then the driver (Who was a right grumpy sod) struggled to get it out of the lorry, and nearly dropped it off of the tail lift.
It's 400 volts at around but single phase so it will run off 230 volts, but will draw something like 170 amps at full whack.

I'll probably sell it on.

Came with a watercooler too.


And yesterday I acquired some more wood to make a solid 2" top for bench it's sitting on.

It weighs a little under 400Kg so I'd never get it up there, but I think it might just take the weight if it was put right at the edge, over a leg.
