Haulamatic Winch

I have picked up a winch like this to haul boats up my steep drive.

The winch works ok but has no remote or switch cables with it. I can get it hauling by leads from battery to live and neg on motor. Any ideas to find that strange two pin plug with wire, or will something have to be built from scratch.

my superwinch has a round 3 pin plug.
have you got 2 round contactors/solenoids inside the covers? one for in, one for out.???

if so then I wouldn't bother buying a wired remote as they are a pain in the bum, you can get 'recovery wireless remotes' off ebay for around a tenner.

Yes I have 2 threaded studs on a solenoid thing. 2 wires on each. This is a very old thing so I was not sure how these remote wireless ones would work with this? No camera lead to take a pic and hardly an image of this old thing on google.

On your plug you have three terminals, once connected to power one terminal should be permanently live, bridge this terminal using a bit of wire to one of the others and it should run one way, bridge it to the other and it should run the other way.

Thanks guys, will try and get a pic up of the bits. Mee: When you say plug, the plug for the extension, only has 2 terminals, as does the solenoid under the cover. There is not 3 terminals on this machine. I can pull out the wire with the lever clutch on freewheel, so ATM I only need a switch to get it hauling.

Cheapest and possibly best way is to go wireless.

Think I have a superwinch control in my shed, I'll have a look over the weekend for it. It's there you can have it

Change the connectors to something sensible.

For power connectors, something from the Anderson range is good. If you have a clamp meter, find out the stall current and size connector accordingly.

For a wired remote, the Neutrik Powercon series are good.

I wonder if it only winches in and not out..if its supposed to go on a boat trailer I guess you don't winch the boat down.
get a meter and see what is at the pins for the plug?

Sounds like one of the old type SW the switch fitted on the 2 terminals with the wire attached to it & you turned the switch assembly left or right

Thanks again guys. The Haulamatic is ancient. I think it may be haul only. The clutch lever has Free, Haul, Lock as positions .

Once I post the connections up and the wires, it will be clearer to you guys, but not to me. Leccy stuff to me is total blank.

These are pics. ATM if I connect battery neg to chassis and positive from battery to the right hand post, the motor works. It's pinion spins anti- clockwise and the wire sheave spins clockwise. This puts the rope loading the top of the sheave. That is not normal? Will it take load this way or must we get it turning the other way?

Have you tried giving Superwinch a bell?
From one side it threw me as the motor loked to have 3 wires making it series wound, but now I have looked properly its a bog standard motor so should be able to go in forward and reverse buy swapping polarity, in practice its best to free spool the rope out and save the battery for winching in.
Is it me or have you not got a solenoid? Just a connector block? You need to trace the cables and start with a drawing.

A supplier on Ebay contacted Superwinch. They don't support this model was answer. I mailed other suppliers and got nothing.
I don't want to blow motor by fiddling and I have previous for letting smoke out of things. I have no logic for leccy stuff.

Yes Fuzzy, about right. Does anyone think that it running anti clockwise will be ok? It will work for me ok doing this.
Going from memory, I seem to recall these devices on plant trailers and the like. So little on google, not a story even.
