£45 seems very low for a 22" stihl, I'm tempted to get in touch, might be he meant to put £450, or if it's £45 and not running it could be properly knackered. Or perhaps it a bit "warm"!

I could do with a 22" saw for running a skip chain.

Edit: Cancel that, on second look I think I just assumed Stihl because of the color scheme, doesn't say that, and 52cc might be a bit under powered for a 22"?

Seen those saws before it's a Chinese stihl copy they are a complete pile of crap. Our local repair guy had about 20 in a scrap pile. They're grand for a little while then just seem to blow up or just toast the insides of themselves

Yeh, thought so after having another look, thanks though David. To be fair I've got a chinese saw, it does fairly well, got it before I had the money for my Stihl and it has had plenty of abuse without giving up. At the time for £100 or something it was fine, still going strong now, having more than 1 saw(got a 16inch Jonsered 2045 i was given as well) can be quite handy.

Why is it a scam, looks to me like someone selling a Chinese chainsaw that won't start for £45!

Why do you want it to run a skip chain, Is it on a mill ? These saws are sold claiming to be 58cc as well, I've read of people having them with great success and also some that failed from the off. I bought a 25cc Chinese top handle which started and ran flat out first off. It could have been dangerous in the hands of a newbie or nervous person. I sorted it and it's been alright since but it doesn't get a lot of use. That same saw you show is sold in Husqvarna colours as well but the bar is usually 20" and unless it claims to be an Oregon bar they usually last as long as the chain.

I've put a Chinese copy cylinder and piston on my genuine Stihl 028 and it's been fine now for a few years. Not all Chinese stuff is rubbish.

Reminded me of someone i know getting had years ago for hifi speakers - the assumption is that theyre nicked, so, if youre that way inclined, must be a bargain, whilst, in fact, theyre just really really poor quality, and at the price they sell them for, abysmal value.

It's just the same 52cc or 58cc saw with a different label on a lot of them, not actually 100cc just labelled as one. They do tend to drink petrol like a 100cc saw though.

To be honest I don't think i'm going to go to the trouble of making a mill (Alaskan style), but it would be for milling. I've got some decent Sycamore and Beach that I would like to plank and dry for making into bowl turning blanks. But I am toying with the idea of trying to just split it. I started working on it with the saw but you can see that it's to much, and I'm not completely devoid of mechanical sympathy so stopped for a re-think. That was a good 6-8 months ago though
My chineese 18" has been a pretty good one to be fair, the flange on the air filter came off first time I removed the filter, but a bit of araldite and it was sorted, starts easily enough too, people selling it put an Oregon bar and chain on it so I must have been lucky to buy from a reasonable supplier.

I would agree hole heartily with that, as I said I got a pretty reasonable saw for not much money and it's never given me any trouble.

Cheers for all the replies though, perhaps a project to look into for next year when the garage is finished and set up as a workshop, maybe look into a bigger saw and getting round to making a milling attachment for it. Then I might find time ion the future to get back into my woodturning.
