SIP Migmate Pro 170 MIG Welder with Euro Torch

Hi, this is my first post.
i am looking to buy a welder SIP Migmate Pro 170 mig welder as my first welder and lerning to weld with it.
i will be primarily using it for welding 4mm angle iron but if i take to welding i may use it for other more fine projects.
is this welder any good and will it be suitable for what i want to do and where can i find the the specifications for what its features are?

I would suggest you look at several different makes and models as SIP are not the best out there, they are aimed more at enthusiastic amateurs when for similar money you could get a much better machine; for example, many of use R Tech which come with inverter technology and the benefit of stick welding as well as MIG in the same machine, run out of gas or wire and you switch over to stick, use stick and run out of electrodes and you switch to MIG.

There are many machines to choose from offering more for the same money.

Is it a new or used machine you're looking at?

If it's new, then sure, you can get better for the same money - but if it's used it's down to the price/quality balance...

it i second hand and they are asking £120 for it

If you can see the machine working prior to handing over your money and it works well then for that price I doubt you will do much better.

I repeat though, see it working and working well.

I am now looking at a new R Tech Mig Welder 180A 240V Portable Inverter for £330.
It does not have a euro torch will this be a problem?
Also it will need gas, does anyone know if the regulator will fit any bottle?

I wouldn't buy a used r-tech unless it came with warranty, because that's essentially what you're buying from them anyway...

Op mentioned it is a new un, seems strange if it has fixed leads instead of euro, unless we have an enterprising scammer with a blue aerosol and rebadging some similar shaped boxes .

It's a huge leap from £120 to £330 for your first welder. As Steve said, assuming the 2nd hand SIP works well, then I wouldn't be put off by starting out with that.
My first welder was a £100 SIP and I did OKIsh with it for a year or so,

If your budget is now up to £300-£400 then the opportunities open up substantially. At that level, let us know what you want to do with it (car body panels, aircraft carrier maintenance, garden sculptures, etc.) and we can provide more focused advice.

There in lies the problem, i do not think i would be confident enough to be able to judge if it was working correctly or not. this is why i am now looking to by new. more expensive but will definitely work! thanks for the advice though.

thanks for the welcome to the forum. i think i will be on here a lot once i get going.
I will be welding 4mm angle or box and if i take to it i may do some more fine welding of thinner materials on vehicles or fabricating things for my campervan.

A euro torch never is connected to the machine when new, it's a fast connect/release system, you still have to feed or remove the wire of course.

Euro torches are as a rule longer than direct wired torches, usually more robust and easily obtainable and replaced if damaged, usually preferred by most but not all people.

Still interested where you have seen that at £330 though, can you link the advert?

There is a link for weldequip at the top of the page, he does sell what most consider quality machines but I was under the impression he did not sell R-Tech machines.

Weldequip doesn't sell R-Tech.

Serena, Amazon price is £442, not £330 unless you've seen something I've missed?

When I did a quick look there was the one at £442 and also one new at £319 from a zero rated new seller, I suspect these are scammers similar to ebay.

Not sure how Amazon works but suspect you would get your money back, the Ebay one's have been known to send out a box with a couple of bricks in to get you to sign for it.

I can't see anyone being genuine or selling genuine R-Tech 180's at that price.
