Laser toner refills

Does anyone refill the toner in their laser printers ? Can anyone recommend a kit ? I bought a Samsung laser printer a while ago because i was sick at the price of the ink cartridges, refilling them was messy. The toner in the new printer hasn't lasted long at all, i think it was only half full to begin with.

You can buy "recon" cartridges a lot cheaper or bulk sized ones that print more...
Don't be tempted to try and refill yourself, there are different mixes for each printer and the dust doesn't do you or your lungs any favors at all.

Yeah I got one of the Samsung lasers a few years back, they come with a half capacity toner. (700 pages or so). I think a new toner is good for about 1400 pages iirc according to their specs

I might just buy a new one. These printers are a licence for someone to print money....boom boom.

When you buy a printer you usually only get a starter cartridge with them, I've refilled toner cartridges myself, I had some spare toner from a xerox machine so used it

Plastic powder. Very similar to power coating stuff.

As has been said, they generally come with a very small cartridge and when you buy a "real" one it has a lot more in it.

Yeah the polymer is a plastic. Not sure that carbon is used in non-black ones though? I always thought it was something else?

I have to say though, pretty much all printers are bloody well disposable these days Even the more expensive models are just nowhere near as good as the older models.

I've been using brother mono lasers for the last 15 years, get good print value from them

I gave up any love for printers when the HP4050 was discontinued. Best printer ever!

Toner is not cheap anymore either, I have about 14 toner cartridges at work all new for printers I don't have

Its a bit like these fancy gillette razor cartridges with ever more blades, 6 at last count i think it was. I believe they cost pence to make, but are sold for much more than that. I'll bet the print cartridges cost very little to make, but are sold for silly money.

Price yours up online I've paid 50 or 60 quid before

I had a quick look and got a price of €54 for the genuine samsung ones (hope they don't catch fire). The non-genuine ones are 10-15 less.

It's more expensive to print them drive

My "test" for a printer is leave it where several thousand students will use it. If it's still working after a week then it's okay. If it's still working after a month then it's a good one.

The 4050s did ten years before being decommissioned. We overran the page counter on every single one of them. Brilliant little things and a true straight paper path.
