Best battery angle grinder?

Keen to get people's opinions on what to go for, power and battery life would be the most important for me... And everyone else I would imagine.

Milwaukee Fuel M18 with min 4ah battery but the 5ah would be even better. It's a superb bit of kit. 9500rpm I think. Obviously a battery powered one will never be as powerful as a corded 240 or 110v one, but the milwaukee one is fairly close to corded performance. has a good motor brake and the disc stops spinning almost immediately when you release the power switch.

I almost always use the cordless now though as I have 4 batteries which keep me going most days.

It is expensive though but worth it if you have other milwaukee 18v tools so you have plenty of batteries.

I have the Makita and initially, with the 3ah batteries I was disappointed with it. I used a 4ah and it came to life. Makita now offer a 5 and even a 6ah battery which is next for my arsenal. If you already have a range of decent 18 volt tools probably best to stick with their offering.

I have the milwaukees with 4 amp batterys and it's brilliant, I just got the 5 amp ones and it's even better

I've never tried one yet but everyware seems to be pushing dewalt's new flexvolt 18v/54v range, and good reviews seem to be coming of it.

Metabo now do a 9" 36volt battery grinder. Would love to get my hands on it for a play.

I've got a Bosch one, works well with a 4ah battery. As said above if you already have some 18v kit then it probably makes sense to stick with what you have, if not then whichever is the best deal at the time/whichever you fancy.

I'd like the Milwaukee stuff but I dont use it enough to justify the cost over and above what I paid for my Bosch version.

I have a Makita brush-less. Not had it long, but so far very pleased with it. I mainly use it for short periods, so battery life is not so important, but seems ok.

I have a 10 year old Ryboi one plus, 18 volt, 115mm angle grinder. It gets used and abused most days.... mainly with an Inox 1mm cutting disc.
I run with the 5aH lithium ion batteries without an issue.

it was really handy when I had the council contract to remove the abandoned bicycles from around the city, as it only took about 10 seconds to go through a hardened chain, shackle or D lock

I have makita but would not use it for general heavy work as it eats batteries and not that powerful but very handy for sharpening tools, cutting goodridge hose etc always have it handy but it just has ultra thin always on it.

I have damn near the whole of the 18 volt Ryobi One plus range. 1/2 sq dr impact, 6mm hex impact, 3 different pistol drills inc the HD 3sp, angle drill, jigsaw, circular saw, recip saw, orbital sander, wet & dry vac, detail sander, caulk gun, plane, Tyre inflator/compressor, rotary file, inspection light, torch, hand lantern, Sprayer, strimmer, hedge trimmer, nailer, etc.

Underrated tools IMO. Apart from the jigsaw, the oscillating doesn't work, about as much use a mudflaps on a tortoise.

While I agree, they all end up flat if run over, and I'd rather forkout for a Ryobi than another Milwaukee

There is one rule with expensive tools, you don't loan them out so the chance of it getting damaged is minimal. Go for the 9.0amh battery and the Milwaukee grinder

I've an 18v Milwaukee cordless angle grinder. Find it excellent, although the batteries don't last long. I've also got a couple of combi drills and an impact driver. They are superb.

The best cordless tool I have is my Milwaukee jigsaw, it's an incredible tool, lasts all day and has the best cut I've ever seen on a jigsaw, a mate borrowed it to cut up the oak cladding on the front of his house, he said you better give me a spare battery, he didn't use it !!!

I've just bought a milwaukee grinder with the 5 ah batteries.
It seems to be pretty good and the batteries are handy to use in the 3/4 impact gun.

i have their 125mm 18v 4.0Ah one and while i do like metabo grinders the battery one is slack enough, what i expected tbh as 4.0Ah is a bit pants for a battery these days.
it has good enough power for what it is and i know it can be got with a 5.0Ah battery but iirc back when i got it (about 18mths ago) there was chat about a 6 or 7 Ah battery becoming available from them but i read into it no more.
so imo they would want to get a bit of a last out of the 125mm one before going mad with a 9" but maybe its got a big Amp houred battery now.

as for would i recomend a metabo cordless grinder, tbh i havent tried too many others to know, its all well and good runnin it in the shop but until you get it on site then you just wont know so ill say i wouldnt recomend one with a 4.0Ah battery anyways.
the minimum id buy now in a li-ion batt now is 5.0 and id always be looking to go as high as was possible in the amp hours any time i would be buying a cordless tool.
ooh and bring back the Ni-Mh battery i say, im no fan at all of Li-Ion batterys.

by my reckoning when Ryobi hit these shores way back then (which isnt too long ago in the grand scheme of things) we were geting the ryobi industrial version, which was and still is bullet proof stuff.
then they dropped the industrial end of it and we got the blue and yellow gear which was still good tack but i fear the quality may have slipped since they went all luminous with their colours.
i have a bit of the ryobi industrial stuff here and its as good as hilti gear, the newer stuff, my jury would be out as i fear they have traded quantity over quality.

altho in saying all that, milwakee and ryobi are owned by the same company, techtronic industries iirc who also own rigid and hoover, they aquired hoover after that god aful stupid idea of giving everyone who bought a new vacuum cleaner a free trip to Florida iirc, they didnt think so many people would take them up on the offer.
good god how wrong they were, it put them out of it and thats when TTI swooped in and hoovered her up so to speak..
altho a lot of me assumes they bought the name's more than anything else and are trading off the back of what used to be at least, a good brand name.
