Bench mounted rotary shears.

Hello all,

I have a bench mounted rotary shears, which is capable of cutting up to 1/8" thick mild steel. I would like to replace the cutting wheels as they are past their best, however I have not been able to locate the manufacturer, OT Engineering, with the machine or trade name being Metcut. I expect that they are no longer trading and I have not been able to find an equivelant specification cutter, most seem to be rated for only 1/16".
Can anyone suggest a supplier for either the wheels or a replacement machine.

thanks for the quick response, but looking at their website it doesn't mention shears and seem to specialise in milling cutters?
I shall e mail the U.K. agent and see what they have to say?

Hello Gordon,

the cutting edge has lasted very well but the upper wheel has serrations that pull the material through and that seems to be the problem. I don't think that they will easily be sharpened?

Hello 500E,

mine is like the one in the video but sturdier, the handle is tubular and two piece, for light metal only one section is used but to cut 1/8" steel it needs the extension to give better leverage. It's been a really good and useful tool.

I would prefer to buy in the U.K. mainly for a quicker delivery but the Baileigh looks to be a good machine?

This works in exactly the same way as the old Record disc type sheep metal cutters, which seem to be far better made than the newer ones, and still sometimes appear on Ebay for under £50, and are perfect for thinner material.

Even though the wheel is serrated, A small amount of metal could be ground from the flat face of the discs, And re-shim to bring the wheels back to the correct position,

Hello Gordon,

no that would make no difference, these serrations are around the periiphery of the wheel.

Further time on Google and I find that Baleigh are sold in the U.K. so I may well give them a go.
