Randa lathes

Looking at lathes at the moment. Are those old small randa lathes any good. I think they are 6" swing and 14" bed. What size work can these little machines realistically work with?

Aw Is that you I watched that last night searching for videos on YouTube that answers everything thank you. Would 500 euro be to much to pay for one? Its not the long bed version.

500 is about 3x what I would want to pay for a complete one.

Nah its to much I'm not gona spend that on it. Comes with a face plate some change wheels , 4 jaw ,3 jaw chuck , drill chuck , live center , don't have as much second hand options over here in ireland in lathes as across the water .

I find mine frustrating in its limitations - I borrowed the use of a pal's Colchester Student just last week and it was like chalk & cheese.

But, it's also horses for courses really - I don't have room or access for a big, heavy lathe so have to manage with the RandA. It's mostly adequate for what I need, and certainly better than nothing......

Here's mine, and yes...it's ridiculously clean because I just tidied up after machining plastic, big pile of turnings......

Thanks, but it doesn't always look like that. It's a bit like a kid on his/her first day at school, spit 'n polish for the photo......
