Peak District farm gates

I've just got back from a few days in the Peak District & noticed up there that many farm gates & a few other bits of metalwork like gutters were painted with a really nice turqioise colour, but some painted royal blue. (I'm guessing for the ones who didn't want to pay the extra for the turquoise but wanted to nod to the tradition).
It became apparant that it's some kind of tradition, or even a requirement, but in any case I was just wondering why/how that colour was decided on? Anyone know?

Hmm, good thought. Though that'd make a lot of farms in some very obscure corners estate owned.

We used to rent an estate cottage and all the exterior woodwork and guttering was battleship grey, I reckon they bought a job lot from the MOD.

Hmm no this shade of blue was definitely more Notting Hill than M.O.D.

Pikeys nicked it from Regal paints just over the Pennines and then they flogged it cheap door-to-door?

And its a known fact Regal can't mix two cans of the same colour.

Thats probably it........Ive a friend in Beeley which used to belong to the Chatsworth Estate, they sold most of them off and now the local Pub / Restaurant is buying them up basically as hotel rooms.
They are all painted the same colour

That's where it was .... Chatsworth, we went to the country fair there and I mentioned the guttering to the father in law, and he told me of the estate colours.

A lot of those little villages belong to the Estate....Some used to be gated to keep out the riff raff
Edensor is another........you wouldnt believe it but I had Tea with the Vicar of Chatsworth (Edensor) last summer.......actually a really nice man who was telling us about the goings on with the Dowager Duchess before she died and at the Funeral (where he took part alongside Prince Charles)

there is an estate not to far away and if you go through there are loads of cottages with a puky colour on the window frames and doors, I wont mention names but it is to show they are estate properties. really awfull colour !!

Common for the Estates to have their own colours and get everything painted in them.

Up here, the Estate which belonged to the late Duke of Westminster has/had black and white as it's colours - even the phone box in the village of Achfary, Sutherland was painted in them

In Hull all the phone boxes are a creamy / white colour........always have been

Estates in Hull mean something very different

A little of topic but following on from technic ALs post above, the phone boxes in hull are different colours because they are owned by a firm called Kingston communications, for some reason they own all of the telecoms in hull, much the same as bt in the rest of the U.K.
