Another one for the leckies..

My extension was wired back in 91 and has been fine for years. it has a ring main for sockets and 2 sets of wall lights with 2 way switches. plus one switch for a light in a small utility room.

I thought all the bulbs had gone as we have not needed them on for weeks but when I tried them yesterday nothing worked. the external halogen worked fine and that comes from the same lighting circuit.

Nothing has tripped......so I now have a lighting circuit with no power.......to part of it.

can anyone work out much from pics...lol

2 red wires in to a connector block and go nowhere the 2 blacks together the neutral and the single black is the switched live don't get em mixed up

These are the two banks of switches. one has just two two way switches.

The other is a bank of three switches. 2 switches are two way and control a set of lights each.

The 3rd switch is just for the light in the small room and goes to the pic of the ceiling....

that has just a single on off switch attached to it. it's for a single but on a small room. seems to have to many wires to it for my liking...

its loop in loop out feed radial . live and neutral in live and neutral out and switch wire , 3 pairs probably. a simple test will verify

I am not happy with this either but it was all behind the light that had been there for years. I think it's actually a plastic chocolate block connector. coveted in insulation tape. but I won't touch it until I can ascertain there is no power to it.

I have purchased a cable test meter to try and trace the incoming supply as I really don't want to be ripping down roofs at present I already have one ceiling inside a flat roof to to repair and a leak in a pitched roof to locate. lol

a lightbulb and lamp holder with a pair of leads put one lead on the 2 lives and other on 2 blacks it should light up with switch off then put lead on 2 blacks and the other on single black then get someone to work the switch on and off flashing lamp will verify switch wire to light

Does this assume that the lives are actually live.....I am being stupid I guess but better safe than sorry. My problem is I can't see how or why a wire has broken.......

a neon test screwdriver will establish if a live feed is there but not the neutral.i t could be broken

I know it sounds stupid but have you made sure all the bulbs are good, i have once seen wires swapped over while decorating and 3 wall lights in one room were all running through one centre ceiling bulb on the same switch(in series).

Nope it's live .....earth.....neutral and a spare.
