Any idea what this should look like

I have this old? roller and it looks like someone has bodged it togeter, any ideas of what it should/did look like when it was new?

I think it looks pretty much like it should do, was the frame not for adding weights to increase the pressure for rolling football fields and the like.

I think I remember them being cast concrete blocks, you varied the amount to vary the pressure.

There would probably have been a box on the top, for adding weight as required, as above.

well the wife would make good ballast but u would have to put up with the moaning and could still hear it over the noise of the engine

I will lend you the mother in law, a roll of duct tape.

But for ballast or just s simple dead weight Mrs Vark brother, he should a dead weight.
